Titans clinch AFC seed with 28-25 win over Texans



NASHVILLE, TN (WTVF) – It wasn’t easy, but the Titans finished the regular season with 28-25 over the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium, and in the process, they finished the number one seed and the home ground advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.

“We’re in the Elite Eight (of the AFC playoffs),” Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said. “We made it to the second round without having to play a game (1st round).”

The Titans took a 21-nil halftime lead with three touchdowns from quarterback Ryan Tannehill. (One each for Anthony Firkser, AJ Brown and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine) But the Texans’ four wins didn’t give up, scoring 18 unanswered points to narrow the lead to three early in the fourth quarter. But Tannehill would set up another scored goal ending in a 7-yard touchdown pass to Julio Jones, his first touchdown as a Titan.

The Texans would get another touchdown to reduce the lead to three again, but Dontrelle Hilliard’s 11-yard run on the two-minute warning sidelined the game as the Titans ran out of time and locked out. their first seed in the AFC playoffs since 2008.

With the win, the Titans finished the regular season 12-5, will have a pass next week and play their first playoff game in two weeks at Nissan Stadium against an opponent yet to be determined.
