How does the compensation process work and when can I apply?


Compensation is how universities and colleges fill the remaining places they still have in their courses.

You can apply for a course using Clearing if:

Students can turn to the compensation system if their A-level results are not as expected.

*you apply after June 30

*you didn’t receive any offers (or any you wanted to accept)

*you have not fulfilled the conditions of your offers

* you have paid the multiple choice application fee of £26.50

*you have declined your firm place by using the “decline my place” button in your application

When do apps open?

Applications opened on July 5 and you have until October 18 to apply for a course through compensation.

You can use the search tool button to filter universities and colleges and subjects to find the course you are looking for. Visit to see what courses are available.

*Keep checking back as universities and colleges regularly update their course information.

* Consider studying a different subject than originally planned.

*Check the course details to see which modules you will study and how long the course lasts.

* Speak with colleges/universities first about a course you are interested in

*Ask about accommodation options if you need to travel to attend your class

*Visit the campus to see what the college/university is like.

*Check that you have the correct entry requirements to enroll in the course.

* Only add a compensation choice once you have permission from the university or college.
