PINE RIVER – Balsam Moon Preserve in Pine River has several events scheduled through October 1.
Events work on reciprocity, based on the value the visitor places on the activity.

- Baking bread with Barb: 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday Sept. 17
Learn the basics of baking bread by mixing, shaping and baking. Cooking will take place in the outdoor wood-fired oven and visitors will take samples home. There will be time to visit and walk the grounds as the dough rises.
The course is limited to six people.
- International Day of Peace Meditation/Maze Walk: 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, September 21.
Group walk with time to focus intentions for peace. Solo walk available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Seed Saving 101: 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 24.
Barbara Kaufman, a Certified Seed Savers Instructor from Decorah, Iowa, will teach how to collect, store and preserve seeds for growing next year’s crops. The centuries-old process is a key part of sustainability, and there are many seed varieties to choose from.
Kaufman is one of the founders of the Seed Saving Library at Pine River Library and has been an active gardener for many years.
- National solar tour: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 1.
Visitors can see the many applications of solar uses in the reserve. Solar energy heats the house, helps grow goods in the deep winter greenhouse, and generates electricity.
No registration necessary.
